Wild patterns of the natural world caught Kate's eye, as I have mentioned. Also, random patterns of the manufactured world. Images like these repeat in her oeuvre. These are some of the most striking. Plastic beads, 2009. Buttons, 2009. Tiny shells, 2008. KO, 2008. Three from San Francisco aquarium, 2012. Gold fish by floral clock, Niagara Falls, Ontario, 2009. Fountain, Niagara, 2009. Daisies, Crick Hollow, Grey County, Ontario, 2008. It's a wild, wild life.

Summer, 2006. Outside Tweed, Ontario. Photos taken in the months before I met her, and in the months after the end of her first marriage. I can't help but look at these and think Kate was contemplating that life is hard, but life is good. They show her trademark attraction to the wild patterns of the natural world and the insertion of the built within it.

Lines. Built space. Imposed structure. Gardiner Expressway, Toronto. Road outside Tweed, Ontario. Stairs to ocean, South Carolina. Attic ceiling, post water leak. Is there an element of natural decay in each of these, or am I imagining it? Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair! Or not. Whatever.
